Jenn has a knack for integrating personal stories, which gave this book an intimate, and much-needed dose of reality. As a psychologist specializing in adolescents who exhibit significant behavior problems, I found myself agreeing with the points she made, as I have experienced similar situations in my clinical practice. Additionally, as a mental health practitioner who self-identifies as African American and Cape Verdean, I found Jenn’s vernacular and directness regarding ethnicity to be both sensitive and candid. I was most impressed by her discussion and research regarding poverty, and how she was able to perfectly articulate how one’s socio-economic status (SES) impacts children and their families, both consciously and subconsciously.
